About Wood

At Bergs Cookshop you'll find cutting boards in solid olive wood from Selbrae House – a British brand focused on high-quality natural materials. The boards are made in Tunisia, where olive wood is a native material with a long tradition.

Olive wood is hard and close-grained, which makes it resistant to knife marks and moisture. The surface hardens over the years, so an olive wood board gets better with use – unlike most kitchen tools.

The grain makes every board unique. The patterns in gold, cream and deep brown follow the tree's own growth, so two boards of the same size never look alike. Olive wood also has natural antimicrobial properties that inhibit the growth of bacteria, making it a hygienic choice for the kitchen.

The range comes in seven sizes, from 30 × 15 cm for breakfast and snacks up to 50 × 26 cm for cheese boards and larger cuts of meat. The boards work just as well as a serving board at the table as on the worktop.

Care

Hand wash with mild detergent and dry immediately. Treat the surface with food-grade oil a couple of times a year to keep the wood from drying out. The boards are not suitable for the dishwasher or the microwave – solid wood cracks when it dries out quickly.
