About Selbrae House

Selbrae House is a British brand designing kitchen and tableware in wood and ceramic. The products are made where the material and the craft are: the olive wood in Tunisia, the hand-painted ceramics in Spain. The country of manufacture is stated on every product page.

Olive wood – and why it belongs in a kitchen

Olive wood is hard and tight-grained, which makes it naturally antibacterial and resistant to knife marks. The surface hardens over the years, so an olive wood cutting board gets better with use – unlike most kitchen equipment.

The grain also makes every board unique. The patterns in gold, cream and deep brown follow the tree's own growth, so two boards of the same size never look alike. Our boards run from 30 × 15 cm for breakfast and snacks up to 50 × 26 cm for cheese boards and larger cuts of meat.

Caring for an olive wood board

Wash by hand with mild detergent and dry immediately. Treat the surface with cooking oil a couple of times a year to keep the wood from drying out. The boards are not dishwasher or microwave safe – solid wood cracks when it dries out quickly.

Hand-painted ceramics

The ceramics are painted by hand in Spain, and it shows: the brushwork varies between pieces and no pattern is exactly like the next. The range covers serving bowls, butter dishes and mugs, several with olive and wave motifs.
